Well, I was baptized at the Baptist church And my old man taught me 'bout a hard days work I learned how to love, learned how to fight It's where we keep our cash in a dresser drawer Underneath the forty-four And if we do you wrong, we damn sure make it right It's the only place that I call home No matter where in this country I might roam It's where the corn grows tall and the moonshine still flows It's the only place that I call home Your word is good on a handshake Preacher still talks about a judgment day People gonna stop when a funeral passes by We say yes sir and say yes ma'am Answer the call from Uncle Sam Hit a bully in the nose if he crosses the line It's the only place that I call home No matter where in this country I might roam It's where the corn grows tall and the moonshine still flows It's the only place that I call home My roots are buried deep here In this little town And one of these days it's where They'll put me in the ground It's the only place that I call home No matter where in this country I might roam It's where the corn grows tall and the moonshine still flows It's the only place that I call home It's the only place that I call home, yeah

I've got to find a place to hideaway Far from the shadows of my mind Sunlight and laughter, love ever after Oh, how I long to find a place to hide away I hear you whisper and I must obey Blindly I follow where you lead Knowing tomorrow, brings only sorrow Where can I go to find a place to hide away? Bright coloured pinwheels go round in my head I run through the mist of the wine But night and the music remind me instead The world once was mine (once was mine) I'll save my pennies for a rainy day (save them for a rainy day) But where can I buy another you? Dreams are for sleeping, love is for weeping Oh, how I long to find a place to hide away But night and the music remind me instead The world once was mine (world once was mine) I'll save my pennies for a rainy day (save them for a rainy day) But where can I buy another you? Dreams are for sleeping, love is for weeping Oh, how I long to find a place to hide away

Not another second to lose You just walk away You see it's gone Not an other second to live And you hear my voice And now it's gone Whatever happened to our love It seems so strange to me That you're running away And then I think of what I've done And it's not strange to me That you're running away It's a fear (4x) Do you think of me now Just you and me What I wouldn't do or say And I feel like I was left alone Then it's like news to my heart And I'm walking back because I want Whatever happened to our love And it's so strange to me That you're running away And when I think of what I've done Than it's not strange to me That you're runnung away It's a fear (8x) It's a fear (8x)

All I want is a quiet place to live Where I can enjoy the fruits of my labour Read the paper And not have to cry out loud In my mind, I can see it crystal clear Sharing my dreams with the people around me Now they surround me And I'm just a part of the crowd What will become of us? What about the children? What will they do to us next time around? What will the answer be? What will it mean to me? When are they gonna see we're underground? Here underground And all I want is a quiet place to live Where I can be free in a world of my making Instead of taking What they decided to give I wouldn't want what they have, no If I could only find (if I could only find) A quiet place to live

It was an early morning bar room, And the place just opened up. And the little man come in so fast and Started at his cup. And the broad who served the whisky She was a big old friendly girl. And she tried to fight her empty nights By smilin' at the world. And she said "Hey Bub, It's been awhile Since you been around. Where the hell you been hidin'? And why you look so down?" But the little man just sat there like he'd never heard a sound. The waitress she gave out with a cough, And acting not the least put off, She spoke once again. She said, "I don't want to bother you, Consider it's understood. I know I'm not no beauty queen, But I sure can listen good." And the little man took his drink in his hand And he raised it to his lips. He took a couple of sips. And he told the waitress this story. "I am the midnight watchman down at Miller's Tool and Die. And I watch the metal rusting, and I watch the time go by. A week ago at the diner I stopped to get a bite. And this here lovely lady she sat two seats from my right. And Lord, Lord, Lord she was alright. "Well, she was so damned beautiful she could warm a winter's frost. But she was long past lonely, and well nigh kinda lost. Now I'm not much of a mover, or a pick-em-up easy guy, But I decided to glide on over, and give her one good try. And Lord, Lord, Lord she was worth a try. "I was Tongued-tied like a school boy, and I stammered out some words. But it did not seem to matter much, 'cause I don't think she heard. She just looked clear on through me to a space back in my head. And it shamed me into silence, as quietly she said, 'If you want me to come with you, then that's all right with me. Cause I know I'm going nowhere, and anywhere's a better place to be. Anywhere's a better place to be.' "I drove her to my boarding house, and I took her up to my room. And I went to turn on the only light to brighten up the gloom. But she said, 'Please leave the light off, Oh I don't mind the dark.' And as her clothes all tumbled 'round her, I could hear my heart. The moonlight SHONE upon her as she lay back in my bed. It was the kind of scene I only had imagined in my head. I just could not believe it, to think that she was real. And as I tried to tell her she said 'Shhh. I know just how you feel. And if you want to come here with me, then that's all right with me. 'Cause I've been oh so lonely, lovin' someone is a better way to be. Anywhere's a better way to be.' "The morning came so swiftly as I held her in my arms. But she slept like a baby, snug and safe from harm. I did not want to share her or dare to break the mood, So before she woke I went out to buy us both some food. "I came back with my paper bag, to find that she was gone. She'd left a six word letter saying 'It's time that I moved on.'" The waitress took her bar rag, and she wiped it across her eyes. And as she spoke her voice came out as something like a sigh. She said "I wish that I was beautiful, or that you were halfway blind. And I wish I weren't so god-damned fat, I wish that you were mine. And I wish that you'd come with me, when I leave for home. For we both know all about loneliness, and livin' all alone." And the little man, Looked at the empty glass in his hand. And he smiled a crooked grin, He said, " I guess I'm out of gin. And know we both have been so lonely. And if you want me to come with you, then that's all right with me. 'Cause I know I'm goin' nowhere and anywhere's a better place to be."

Calling it quits You think this is easy I swear I hurt You call in the jury Call it a catch Without any strings attached Well I'm looking for a soft place to land The forest floor The palms of your hands I'm looking for a soft place to land I call it an ace You've gotta believe me But you're calling me names And not to my face But you're calling my spade A bluff without calling it off I'm looking for a soft place to land The forest floor The palms of your hands I'm looking for a soft place to land Call me in the night I don't mind I don't care I can't sleep Call me in the day In my car On my way Call me by my name All I want is to hear you say I'm looking for a soft place to land The forest floor The palms of your hands I'm looking for a soft place to land The forest floor The palms of your hands The palms of your hands The palms of your hands

You stay up Morning light to gauge us Something that you dreamt up Seems like the whole time Wait, don't wait for your time to come Say, don't save me from what I have done Your skin was always thicker than the distance between my heart and yours The walls were some fixation Left your questions vacant from the start My eyes she couldn't stare through What a surprise they belong to you Rain drops kiss my skin And I reprise my songs and pretend My day dream Wake up where you found me Staring out on 12th Street Just like the old times Day dream Wake up where you found me Staring out on 12th Street Just like the old times I had it so simple when you were mine My hand in yours til the end of time You said you'd watch my eyes closed all night You said that you would watch me until I died You'd lay there alone with me with a smile Wait, don't wait for the time to come Say, don't save me from what I have done My day dream Wake up where you found me Staring out on 12th Street Just like the old times Day dream Wake up where you found me Staring out on 12th Street Just like the old times Wake up (wake up) Wake up (wake up) Oh, wake up (wake up) You gotta wake up (wake up) Wake up (wake up) Wake up (wake up) Oh, wake up (wake up) You gotta wake up

It's been a long time on the road Without a soul to call my own I'm tired of talking to the cards I miss the flowers in the yard There's no place like Home No place like home There's no place I'd rather be Than home I'm gonna move out of the street Stack some stones maybe grow some wheat Build a fire for a little heat Have someone curl up at my feet There's no place like home No place like home There's no place I'd rather be than home Mmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmm I wanna hang up some Pretty things From my suitcase full of dreams Maybe a letter or an old post card Or that paper star stole from a jar There's no place like home No place like home There's no place I'd rather be Than home The sweetest words I ever heard is "Welcome home" It's been a long and dusty road There's a place that's meant for us Full of faith Hope Love and trust I'll keep trudging up the road But someday I'll be going home There's no place like home No place like home There's no place I'd rather be than home Home, home, home Mmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmm Home

Couldn't wait for Friday, 3 p.m. You picked me up, we were gone again Truck tires on a dirt road Kentucky hills out the window Didn't stop till we got to Wilson Farm We were kings and queens, the world was ours Running wild through the wheat fields Thinking this is how free feels Laughing as we go There's no place like home Up to high point mountain we would climb You'd tell me your dreams, I'd tell you mine Wonder if you ever knew How much I was looking up to you You played me all your favorite songs Why you let your little sister tag along I'll never know but I'm glad you did I wish we were still those kids Laughing as we go home There's no place like home The trouble with time is it won't slow down How I wish it would The trouble with earth is I can't bring you back God, I wish I could But I look up at the stars When I'm missing you the most And this aching in my heart is what reminds me There's no place like home I still take the same old Friday drive Pretend you're right there by my side And climb high point mountain without you But it ain't the same without you Preacher talks about a better place Where all our tears will be wiped away A healing for this brokenness No more longing for the ones we miss But you already know There's no place like home Trouble with time is it won't slow down How I wish it would The trouble with earth is I can't bring you back God, I wish I could But I look up at the stars When I'm missing you the most And this aching in my heart is what reminds me There's no place like home Oh, there's no place like home I stopped by to talk to you today And touch the stone where you were laid Right next to grandpa's barn But I know that's not where you are It fills my heart with hope There's no place like home Oh, there's no place like home There's no place like home

There's a bit of magic in a simple little smile Something that just makes life seem a little more worthwhile And there's a world of meaning in the touch of someone's hand A gentle touch that let's your brother know you understand Oh if people would stop taking and just once try to give We could make the world we're living in a better place to live La la la la la la la la la la la la And if we'd love one another instead of finding faults We could afford the price of peace, love is all it costs Oh wouldn't it be great to live and sing in harmony Everybody take your brother's hand and sing my song with me La la la la la la la la la la la la All life has to offer that's what most folks desire But offer nothing in return, cause they don't seem to care And if we'd ask to be forgiven and be willing to forgive We could make the world we're living in a better place to live And if we'd all climb together, we could climb the highest hill We could make the world we're living in a better place to live And if we'd love one another instead of finding faults We could afford the price of peace, love is all it costs Oh wouldn't it be great to live and sing in harmony Everybody take your brother's hand and sing my song with me La la la la la la la la la la la la

Hey, you Yeah, you Sometimes I think this woman is kinda hot Sometimes I think this woman is sometimes not Puts me down, fool me around Why she do it to me? Out for satisfaction, any piece of action That ain't the way it should be She is alone, knows I'm the man She's gotta see Pours my beer, licks my ear Brings out the devil in me Hell ain't a bad place to be Spend my money, drinks my booze Stays out every night But I got to thinkin', hey, just a minute Somethin' ain't right All this disillusions and confusion Make me wanna cry Oh, the shame you, playin' your games Tellin' me those lies Don't mind her playin' demon Long as it's with me If this is hell then you could say It's heavenly Hell ain't a bad place to be Late in the night turns down the light Closes up on me Opens my heart, tears me apart Brings out the devil in me Hell ain't a bad place to be I said hell ain't a bad place to be Hell ain't a bad place to be, wait a minute Hell ain't a bad place to be

When holding your breath is safer than breathing When letting go is braver than keeping When innocent words turn to lies And you can't hide by closing your eyes When the pain is all that they offer Like the kiss from the lips of a monster You know the famine so well, but never met the feast When home is the belly of a beast The ocean is wild and over your head And the boat beneath you is sinking Don't need room for your bags, hope is all that you have So say the Lord's Prayer twice, hold your babies tight Surely someone will reach out a hand And show you a safe place to land Oh, imagine yourself in a building Up in flames, being told to stand still The window's wide open, this is leap is on faith You don't know who will catch you, but maybe somebody will The ocean is wild and over your head And the boat beneath you is sinking Don't need room for your bags, hope is all that you have So say the Lord's Prayer twice, hold your babies tight Surely someone will reach out a hand And show you a safe place to land Be the hand of a hopeful stranger Little scared, but you're strong enough Be the light in the dark of this danger 'Til the sun comes up Be the hand of a hopeful stranger Little scared but you're strong enough Be the light in the dark of this danger 'Til the sun comes up Be the hand of a hopeful stranger You're scared but you're strong enough Be the light in the dark of this danger 'Til the sun comes up 'Til the sun comes up (Oh) 'Til the sun comes up ('Til the sun) 'Til the sun comes up (Ooh) 'Til the sun ('Til the sun) Comes up

Every step we take is a rule we break And we're ever only moving backwards But we push on more, 'cause you always swore That we never even meet your standards Forgive me, I am sorry, but these wounds won't stay unopened When I say, believe me, the most beautiful people are broken This self doubt means that we shout But the void is always full of voices And t hey echo back everything we lack But we never know what the choice is This day plays out like the first, With a little more pain and a little more curse Believe me when I say that the most Beautiful people are beautifully broken Killing us with a thousand cuts, conquer and divide us It's a game that we have lost too well Can we get a little charity? Can we get a little empathy? The joke's on you, I only hate myself It's a war, with a prefix score 'Cause the front page is permanently airbrushed We abide by the rules, like naive fools But the game is always fixed against us Screaming at our souls you whisper everything we're not With every swipe, a sponsored snipe, 'cause honesty can rot Killing us with a thousand cuts, conquer and divide us It's all a game that we have lost too well Can we get a little charity? Can we get a little empathy? The joke's on you, I only hate myself Killing us with a thousand cuts, conquer and divide us You rigged the game and now we can't push through Can we get a little charity? Can we get a little empathy? The only thing I hate more than myself is you

Well, you can't deny how good he looks Couldn't find another on the cover of a book Believe me Well, I've almost loved him once or twice But don't be fooled by his innocent smile He's clever as the devil and just as wild He's crazy But a little crazy is kinda nice He's a heartache Lookin' for a place to happen Lookin' for a little action Livin' for the moment not for lovin' He's a heartache Lookin' for a place to happen Temporary satisfaction If you try to hold on he's gone Well, I might as well tell someone else I know I'll never have him to myself Not likely But I wouldn't mind just one more night If he wants to hold you, let it be Don't pass up the opportunity To know him You won't forget him all your life But whatever you do be wise enough Not to fall in love But whatever you do be wise enough Not to fall in love But don't be fooled by his innocent smile He's clever as the devil and just as wild He's crazy But a little crazy is kinda nice He's a heartache Lookin' for a place to happen Lookin' for a little action Livin' for the moment not for lovin'

Hiding in any doorway, in any shadow Any place where danger waits to kill my time There is one who loves and waits to seal your fate As sure as you live and die Live and die, live and die When you feel that something's wrong I'll shelter you and keep you warm I'll never let you walk alone I loved you when you still hated me I'm coming and it won't be long Time to reap what I have sown Never ever let you walk alone I know your enemy, it once was me Let me wrap my arms all around you Suffer the trespasses that you've made I will drink your pain away Forever and a day If you just call out my name If you just call, call my name If you just call, even whisper it When you feel that something's wrong I'll shelter you and keep you warm I'll never let you walk alone I loved you when you still hated me I'm coming and it won't be long It's time to reap what I have sown Never ever let you walk alone I know your enemy, it once was me When you feel that something's wrong I'll shelter you and keep you warm I'll never let you walk alone I loved you when you still hated me I'm coming and it won't be long It's time to reap what I have sown Never ever let you walk alone I know your enemy, it once was me When you feel that something's wrong I'll shelter you and keep you warm I'll never let you walk alone I loved you when you still hated me I'm coming and it won't be long Time to reap what I have sown Never ever let you walk alone I know your enemy, it once was me

When I wake up in my house I get dressed then I get lost I don't know which way to go I guess I'll have a cup of joe Where the hell was I, anyways? So I end up on the street Walkin', talkin' to my own beat In a fog, and in a haze I've been trippin' out for days Can you help me find my way home? 1-2-3 Don't rock the boat now, just let it slide Groovy people walking back and forth, that's right So I hop on to this bus Destination reads "Please save us" Not a soul that I know To be found in this dark hole Can you help me find my way home? Can you help me find my way home? I'm so tired (I'm so tired) Of looking for the door Please help me find my way (I'm so tired) Please help me find my way (I'm so tired) I can't find the door Where am I now, where am I now? I find myself just out there, floating I find myself just out there, floating I find myself just out there, floating Where am I now, where am I now? I find myself just out there, floating

It's been ten long years since I left my home In the holler where I was born Where the cool fall night makes the wood smoke rise And a fox hunter blows his horn. I fell in love with a girl from the town I thought that she could be true I ran away to Charlottesville And worked in a sawmill too. What have they done to the old home place, Why did they tear it down And why did I leave the plow in the field And look for a job in the town. Well the girl ran off with somebody else The sheriff took all my pay And here I stand where the old home stood Before they took it away. Now the geese fly south and the cold wind moans, I stand alone and hang my head. I've lost my love, I've lost my home And now I wish I was dead. What have they done to the old home place, Why did they tear it down. And why did I leave the plow in the field And look for a job in the town.

There's no place like home There's no place like home There's no place like home Deep lows That come like twisted fate The world around you changed The black and grey have faded Scared crows The lions hiding fears The voice of death appears No guarantee we make it Guarantee we make it Damn sure isn't Kansas anymore And it feels like we won't ever Find the place we're looking for Danger in the skies And I know you're losing hope But I promise you we'll find the road back home We'll find the road back home Wake up The wicked woods of red Are only in your head A click of faith could save us Don't run The curtain's coming down (the curtain's coming down) If we want our own way out Brick by brick we'll make it Brick by brick we'll make it Brick by brick we'll make it Damn sure isn't Kansas anymore And it feels like we won't ever Find the place we're looking for Danger in the skies And I know you're losing hope But I promise you we'll find the road back home Find the road back home There's danger in the skies And I know you're losing hope But I promise you we'll find the road Damn sure isn't Kansas anymore (damn sure isn't Kansas anymore) And it feels like we won't ever Find the place we're looking for Danger in the skies And I know you're losing hope But I promise you we'll find the road back home We'll find the road back home

Early in the morning before the rooster crows I lie awake and think about my soul All the years have gone by all the memories are worn The further way almost seems forlorn The preacher prayed, the devil grinned The celestial choir sang the hymn But the great door man won't let me in 'Cause heaven to me is just another place to sin I drained all the high hopes in every bitter brew I found Hit the bottom of the glass for my last round All those bygone lovers vanish from my mind My bags are packed headin' for the other side The preacher prayed, the devil grinned The celestial choir sang the hymn But the great door man won't let me in 'Cause heaven to me is just another place to sin

When it all closed in around me, Everyone turned and ran The ones that loved me, And the ones I cared about Everything I had made, And all I'd built Came tumbling down, And left me with this guilt Everything was together, I swear it was the best But then the gaps turned into holes, And now there's nothing left Things I counted strong, Are now all gone So now I'm standing here in pieces, Don't know where I belong Friends have turned to enemies, That I still love But the looks they gave me, Seemed to hurt the most And I know I shouldn't care I always knew it would come to a close But another chance is all I ask Now I've built a life around you, I know where I call home It's not an empty place, It's filled with love And when things beging to break, I know you'll find me And you'll call me home Though I try, I know I'm nothing on my own Tears will break me, Fears will change me When there's nothing left unknown I know you'll call me home I know you'll call me home

You got those eyes (that) stare into my soul You get that smile when I'm giving you my all You're the brighter side of things You're the lighter side of life And all the joy that you bring Is why I need you in my life (But) can I call you home You'll be mine and I'll be yours I just wanna let you know In my mind I call you home The only thing I ever knew is that I never know I've had my time in the sun and now I gotta go You're the brighter side of things You're the lighter side of life And all the joy that you bring Is why I need you in my life (But) can I call you home You'll be mine and I'll be yours I just wanna let you know In my mind I call you home In my mind(But) can I call you home You'll be mine and I'll be yours I just wanna let you know In my mind I call you home (And now) can I call you home You'll be mine and I'll be yours I just wanna let you know In my mind I call you home
