Dublin Blues - song lyrics

I wished I was in Austin in the Chili Parlor Bar
Drinking Mad Dog Margaritas and not caring where you are
But here I sit in Dublin just rolling cigarettes
Holding back and choking back the shakes with every breath

So forgive me all my anger, forgive me all my faults
There's no need to forgive me for thinking what I thought
I loved you from the get go, and I'll love you 'til I die
I loved you on the Spanish Steps the day you said goodbye

I am just a poor boy, work's my middle name
If money was a reason, well, I would not be the same
But I'll stand up and be counted, I'll face up to the truth
I'll walk away from trouble, but I can't walk away from you

So forgive me all my anger, forgive me all my faults
There's no need to forgive me for thinking what I thought
I loved you from the get go, and I'll love you 'til I die
I loved you on the Spanish Steps the day you said goodbye

I have been to Fort Worth, and I have been to Spain
I have been too proud to come in out of the rain
I have seen the David, I've seen the Mona Lisa too
I have heard Doc Watson play, "Columbus Stockade Blues"

So forgive me all my anger, forgive me all my faults
There's no need to forgive me for thinking what I thought
I loved you from the get go, and I'll love you 'til I die
I loved you on the Spanish Steps the day you said goodbye

Well I wished I was in Austin, hmm, in the Chili Parlor Bar
Drinking Mad Dog Margaritas and not caring where you are

Thank y'all very much
It's Guy Clark
Thanks very much, I had a great time

In the merry month of June, From my home I started, Left the girls of Tuam, Nearly broken hearted, Saluted me father dear, Kissed me darling mother, Drank a pint of beer, My grief and tears to smother, Then off to reap the corn, And leave where I was born, Cut a stout blackthorn, To banish ghost and goblin, In a brand new pair of brogues, go rattling o'er the bogs, Frightening all the dogs, On the rocky road to Dublin. One, two, three, four, five In Mullingar last night, I rested limbs so weary, Started by daylight, Next morning bright and early, Took a drop of the pure, To keep my heart from sinking, That's the Paddy's cure, When he's on the drinking. See the lassies smile, Laughing all the while, At me darling style, ' Twould set your heart a-bubbling. Asked me was I hired, The wages I required, Till I was almost tired, Of the rocky road to Dublin. One, two, three, four, five Hunt the hare and turn her down the rocky road and all the way to Dublin, whack-fol-la-de-da! In Dublin next arrived, I thought it such a pity, To be so soon deprived, A view of that fine city. Decided to take a stroll, All among the quality, My bundle it was stole, In a neat locality; Something crossed my mind, When I looked behind; No bundle could I find, Upon me stick a wobbling. Enquiring for a rogue, They said me Connacht brogue, Wasn't much in vogue, On the rocky roadto Dublin. One, two, three, four, five Hunt the hare and turn her down the rocky road and all the way to Dublin, whack-fol-la-de-da! From there I got away, Me spirits never failing Landed on the quay just as the ship was sailing; Captain at me roared, Said that no room had he, then I jumped aboard, A cabin found for Paddy, Down among the pigs played some funny rigs, Danced some hearty jigs, The water round me bubbling, When off to Holyhead, Wished myself was dead, Or better far instead, On the rocky road to Dublin. One, two, three, four, five Hunt the hare and turn her down the rocky road and all the way to Dublin, whack-fol-la-de-da! The boys of Liverpool, When we safely landed, Called meself a fool; I could no longer stand it; Blood began to boil, Temper I was losing, Poor old Erin's isle They began abusing," Hurrah my soul," sez I, Let the shillelagh fly; Some Galway boys were nigh, Saw I wasa hobbling, With a loud hurray, They joined me in thefray. Soon we cleared the way, O'er the rocky road to Dublin. One, two, three, four, five Hunt the hare and turn her down the rocky road and all the way to Dublin, whack-fol-la-de-da! One, two, three, four, five Hunt the hare and turn her down the rocky road and all the way to Dublin, whack-fol-la-de-da!

After our affair I swore that I'd leave Dublin And in that line I'd left behind The years, the tears, the memories and you In Dublin At the quays friends come and say farewell We'd laugh and joke and smoke And later on the boat I'd cry over you In Dublin How can I leave the town that brings me down That has no jobs Is blessed by God And makes me cry Dublin And at sea with flowing hair I'd think of Dublin Of Grafton Street and Derby Square And those for whom I really care and you In Dublin

1. Take me away from this city, And leave me to where I can be on my own. I wanted to see you and now that I have I just wanna be left alone. I'll always remember your kind words, And I'll still remember your name, But I've seen you changing and turning, And I know that things just won't be the same. Ref. I remember that summer in Dublin, And the Liffey as it stank like hell, And young people walking down Grafton Street, Everyone looking so well. I was singing a song I heard somewhere, Called "Rock'n'Roll Never Forget", When my humming was smothered by the 46A, And the scream of a low flying jet. So, I jumped on a bus to Dun Laoghaire, Stopping off to pick up my guitar, When a drunk on a bus told me how to get rich, I was glad we weren't going too far. 2. So, I'm leaving on Wednesday morning, Trying to find a place where I can hear, The wind and the birds and the sea and rocks, And where open roads are always out there. And if sometimes I tire of the quiet, And I wanna get back up that hill, I just get on the road and I stick out my thumb, â? Cause I know for sure you'll be there still. Ref. [As above] I remember that summer in Dublin. I can't stop see that sunshine in Dublin.

Don't waste a tear Because I know it's only practice when you care For someone else You live in fear Because you know it's only practice in a mirror And nothing else If I told you I really care I would be lying All I want is for you to let it go You're full of worries, it's getting tiring Why would you care what they all think? You know me better to be so scared to let me in I guess you caught me on a bad day But it's okay if you've got time You fuck me up so gladly Kinda telling you that I don't mind Don't waste a tear Because I know it's only practice when you care For someone else You're full of worries, it's getting tiring Why would you care what they all think? You know me better to be so scared to let me in I guess you caught me on a bad day But it's okay if you've got time You fuck me up so gladly Kinda telling you that I don't mind
