Dublin - song lyrics

After our affair
I swore that I'd leave Dublin
And in that line I'd left behind
The years, the tears, the memories and you

In Dublin

At the quays friends come and say farewell
We'd laugh and joke and smoke
And later on the boat
I'd cry over you

In Dublin

How can I leave the town that brings me down
That has no jobs
Is blessed by God
And makes me cry

Dublin

And at sea with flowing hair
I'd think of Dublin
Of Grafton Street and Derby Square
And those for whom I really care and you

In Dublin

I wished I was in Austin in the Chili Parlor Bar Drinking Mad Dog Margaritas and not caring where you are But here I sit in Dublin just rolling cigarettes Holding back and choking back the shakes with every breath So forgive me all my anger, forgive me all my faults There's no need to forgive me for thinking what I thought I loved you from the get go, and I'll love you 'til I die I loved you on the Spanish Steps the day you said goodbye I am just a poor boy, work's my middle name If money was a reason, well, I would not be the same But I'll stand up and be counted, I'll face up to the truth I'll walk away from trouble, but I can't walk away from you So forgive me all my anger, forgive me all my faults There's no need to forgive me for thinking what I thought I loved you from the get go, and I'll love you 'til I die I loved you on the Spanish Steps the day you said goodbye I have been to Fort Worth, and I have been to Spain I have been too proud to come in out of the rain I have seen the David, I've seen the Mona Lisa too I have heard Doc Watson play, "Columbus Stockade Blues" So forgive me all my anger, forgive me all my faults There's no need to forgive me for thinking what I thought I loved you from the get go, and I'll love you 'til I die I loved you on the Spanish Steps the day you said goodbye Well I wished I was in Austin, hmm, in the Chili Parlor Bar Drinking Mad Dog Margaritas and not caring where you are Thank y'all very much It's Guy Clark Thanks very much, I had a great time

1. Take me away from this city, And leave me to where I can be on my own. I wanted to see you and now that I have I just wanna be left alone. I'll always remember your kind words, And I'll still remember your name, But I've seen you changing and turning, And I know that things just won't be the same. Ref. I remember that summer in Dublin, And the Liffey as it stank like hell, And young people walking down Grafton Street, Everyone looking so well. I was singing a song I heard somewhere, Called "Rock'n'Roll Never Forget", When my humming was smothered by the 46A, And the scream of a low flying jet. So, I jumped on a bus to Dun Laoghaire, Stopping off to pick up my guitar, When a drunk on a bus told me how to get rich, I was glad we weren't going too far. 2. So, I'm leaving on Wednesday morning, Trying to find a place where I can hear, The wind and the birds and the sea and rocks, And where open roads are always out there. And if sometimes I tire of the quiet, And I wanna get back up that hill, I just get on the road and I stick out my thumb, â? Cause I know for sure you'll be there still. Ref. [As above] I remember that summer in Dublin. I can't stop see that sunshine in Dublin.

Joyful mystery, the birth of our Lord... This night our Lady and St. Joseph was going up to get registered and, um, They were going down the road and they met this man and he said, "Have you any room?" and he said, "No, but there's an old stable over there that I owned, if yous want to go into it." And they went over and the Lord came down from the heaven at twelve o'clock and loads of beautiful angels was with them, and when they were walkin'... I walk the streets of Dublin town, it's eighteen forty-two It's snowing on this Christmas Eve, think I'll beg another bob or two I'll huddle in this doorway here 'Til someone comes along If the lamp lighter comes real soon Maybe I'll go home with him Maybe I can find a place I can call my home Maybe I can find a home I can call my own These three wise kings, um, they were all from different countries. And they always used to look up at the sky and they looked up this night and saw this beautiful star up in the sky. And when they were going they all meeted together and they had to pass King Herod's, not that we much care for him. And they went in and he said, "Where ye goin' with yer best stitches on ye?" The horses on the cobbled stones go by, think I'll get one, one fine day And ride into the countryside and very far away But now as the daylight disappears I best find a place to sleep Think I'll slip into the bell tower In the church just down the street Maybe I can find a place I can call my home Maybe I can find a home I can call my own And they said, "Did you not hear the news?" and say he says, "What news?" He says, "This day the Savior is born." And he says to them, "When you find him come back and tell me 'cause I want to go and adore him too." And he was only coddin' them. He wanted to kill him and when they were going, they stopped and they said, "Surely not this old stable that our King is born in. We were expecting a palace." Maybe on the way I'll find the dog I saw the other night And tuck him underneath my jacket So we'll stay warm through the night And as we lie in the bell tower high And dream of days to come The bells o'er head will call the hours The day we will find a home Maybe I can find a place I can call my home Maybe I can find a home I can call my own Maybe I can find a place I can call my home Maybe I can find a home I can call my own There was these shepherds and shepherds are fellas that mind The foals and cows and sheeps and little lambs and all and, um, They hears this beautiful music up in the sky and they were wondering what was so fun. An angel disappated them and he said, "I was wonderin' what was so fun" And he said ye, and he said, "The savior is born. If yous want to go see him, follow that star up in the sky," and it was a beautiful star.

Where did you go, Angelina? Why did you take my foolish heart? I should've known, Angelina I was never right for that part I could've sworn, Angelina We would get hitched and you'd be a bitch about Getting us there on time I'd thank the Lord for Angelina Oh, so I guess the wedding I'll never be getting Will live in the back of my mind I never loved you more than when you said goodbye 'Cause maybe I knew that love wasn't honest if you had to lie I never loved you more than when you walked away 'Cause maybe I knew, Angelina, you'd never stay Are you coming home, Angelina? I think I'm done trying to hold on to you I think you should know, Angelina That I'd probably fall again if you wanted me to And she said I love you so I said it back But I wished she was you

I see chemtrails in the sky, but I don't see the plane What the hell is my problem with taking the blame? 'Cause I play with my food and then someone else takes it away It's so hard to believe, but I'm trying to change I see lines in the sand, but I don't see who made them I still listen to that band that you showed me last April I still play with my food, I'm a child at the grown-up's table It's so hard to believe, but right now I feel stable I moved away and I grew a few inches What a shame I had a chance and I missed it And there are some days when I hear that song And I hate to admit it But I miss it, I do Oh, I miss it, I miss you Oh, I miss it, I miss it, I miss you Oh, oh Oh, I miss it, I miss it, I miss you I see chemtrails in the sky, but I don't see the plane I know that I feel it, but I don't know the name I play with my food, and then I throw it away So hard to believe I have to grow up this way I moved out and I made some new friends Sometimes when I shout, it feels like no one hears it And there are some days when I think that somewhere you're watching As I grow up without you I miss it, I miss you (Here is Elizabeth eating a big snack after being in the shower for 15 minutes) I miss it, I miss you (she's famished, can you tell?) (Say goodnight) (Goodnight)

Why am I pulled to you? And why does it never feel like I'm finished talking When we're finished talking? Why am I pulled to you? And why does it never feel right To not pick up when you're calling? You know me so well Even if you don't know my favorite type of cereal You know me so well Even though we're both different people now It's stupid, it's so stupid to miss you like this I feel stupid, so stupid to miss you like this 'Cause I told you to go and you went Oh, what did I expect? So it's stupid, it's stupid, I know that it's stupid To love you But I can't help it Mmm, I can't help it I can't help it How did we get here? It makes no sense, but it feels like A sign from God That I keep ignoring How did we get to this place we're in? It makes no sense, but it feels right And maybe that's God I probably shouldn't ignore him You know me so well Even if you don't know my favorite type of cereal You know me so well Even if you don't know I don't believe in God anyhow But it's stupid, it's so stupid to miss you like this I feel stupid, so stupid to miss you like this 'Cause I told you to go and you went Oh, what did I expect? So it's stupid, it's stupid, I know that it's stupid To love you But I can't help it
