The Middle - song lyrics

Hey, don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head, you feel left out
Or looked down on
Just try your best, try everything you can
It doesn't matter what they tell themselves when you're away

It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be alright, alright

Hey, you know they're all the same
You know you're doing better on your own
So don't buy in
Just live right now
And just be yourself
It doesn't matter if it is good enough for someone else

It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be alright, alright

Hey, don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head, you feel left out
Or looked down on
Just do your best, do everything you can
It doesn't matter what the bitter hearts
Are gonna say

It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be alright, alright

It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be alright, alright

Alright, alright
Alright, alright
Alright, alright

One more try We can only hang on for so long But we won't rise Someone's always somewhere in the middle And I know why you can never tell me forever Look away when you see me reaching out for higher Higher love, ooh higher love is not better And I love the way you tell me You're wrong when there's nothing to say, oh Hanging on the fence now We're always somewhere in the middle And I can never tell you I don't want love You're always somewhere in the middle Free from our dreams Hanging on the fence now We're always somewhere in the middle And I can never tell you I don't want love You're always somewhere in the middle Free from our dreams Watch how high, use your hand to steady out the ladder But you won't try, you don't wanna stay there in the shadow Eye to eye when you used to stand here right beside me Now we take time, no one ever said what's everlasting Hanging on the fence now We're always somewhere in the middle And I can never tell you I don't want love You're always somewhere in the middle Free from our dreams Hanging on the fence now We're always somewhere in the middle And I can never tell you I don't want love You're always somewhere in the middle Free from our dreams How can I show you I love you? Now that they put me above you They're enough to make you feel little But now we're just somewhere in the middle Waiting for direction, waiting on the bench now How could I not mention I was always tempted Always in the end, now wait until we calm down I can do it better, better baby Hanging on the fence now We're always somewhere in the middle And I can never tell you I don't want love You're always somewhere in the middle Free from our dreams Hanging on the fence now We're always somewhere in the middle And I can never tell you I don't want love You know I never meant to make you feel little, little Now it's time to start somewhere in the middle, middle

I don't wanna hide But I've got my pride And I don't like to ever need Someone by my side I stay locked up all the time And I tell myself I'm free But I want you close to me Come on over here and scale these walls I built them just for you Come on over here and scale these walls I feel your love breaking through I spent my whole life in fight or flight But I called it holding ground So I'll let you in, slowly brick by brick 'Cause I don't want to hold back now I wanna let it all fall down Come on over here and scale these walls I built them just for you Come on over here and scale these walls I feel your love breaking through Come on over here and scale these walls I built them just for you Come on over here and scale these walls I feel your love breaking through Only your love's breaking through

They tell me I used to be weary That I was nearly fading to black But I don't recall another feeling Before I loved you back They say there's more to my story But those days have all slipped my mind Now the only thing blue in my memory Is the color of your eyes last night What does it matter whether The world wasn't always like this? We are together So, I forget the rest I walked alone, so they tell me But that was pages and pages ago Now I've put my feet where they're supposed to be And they'll all say that's all she wrote What does it matter whether The world wasn't always like this? We are together So, I forget the rest What does it matter whether The world wasn't always like this? We are together So, I forget the rest We are together So, I forget the rest

When I go out and try to walk alone Pretending I don't need a hand to hold I'm hiding, but I know that you can see I know you know me When I am drawing lines in the sand You are the moon that pulls the tide back in I rise and fall, you feel the gravity I know you know me I know you know, I know you know I know you know me I know you know, I know you know I know you know me No matter where the storm is in my mind It'll never be a place that you can't find You hold the candle, oh, you hold the key I know you know me I know you know, I know you know I know you know me I know you know, I know you know I know you know me I know you know, I know you know I know you know me

Guess what, it's the same old song I've been writing all along Never did figure it out I sit down here to work through my fears And that's what I end up singing out loud Oh, but who am I to think I get to solve the mystery Of who and why and what was all that about So, turn off the record if you think I'm getting better I don't wanna let you down I don't wanna let you down I really do wanna tell you something cool But I'm still cleaning up my mess I scream at the clouds and drink after hours But the answers don't come without a return address So, I'm reading my mail and paying my bail From the prison I've been making in my head So, now you can bury me in obscurity 'Cause all I wanna be is a heart on a sleeve All I wanna be is a heart on a sleeve I don't wanna put my pain on a pedestal Wrap it up and sell it to you at the record store I know we all feel the same, I'm just a little louder Same lemons in my bloody hands, turning me sour So, I've been playing at the church of Mary Oliver Yeah, I'm trying to know myself and love all of her I'm finding wonder in the hyacinths And owning up to lies and sins And when I think I'm done I do it again When I think I'm done I do it again and again and again All I'm gonna be, all I'm gonna be All I'm gonna be is a heart on a sleeve All I'm gonna be, all I'm gonna be All I'm gonna be is a heart on a sleeve All I'm gonna be, all I'm gonna be All I'm gonna be is a heart on a sleeve All I'm gonna be, all I'm gonna be All I'm gonna be is a heart on a sleeve

Hold your head up, don't you cry, no Don't you worry, I'll be fine And you can let your heart ache, but don't you let it change The way it's beating, 'cause you'll be needing Every ounce of love I gave you Now the road is rough, but it's here to save you Go on, let it guide you Even when I'm not beside you This world turns you upside down and inside out And it's a longer fall, the higher that you climb When trouble finds you, you can just do what I do Grit your teeth, get through it And wait for the next good time Most things gonna lose their shine Some things string up party lights Every day ain't champagne But it ain't all rain, no This world turns you upside down and inside out And it's a longer fall, the higher that you climb When trouble finds you, you can just do what I do Grit your teeth, get through it And wait for the next good time And at the end of the line You won't be thinking 'bout the hard times At the end of the line, oh You'll be smiling just like I am When trouble finds you, you can just do what I do Grit your teeth, get through it And wait for the next good time Wait for the next good time
