Old Enough (feat. Ricky Scaggs & Ashley Monroe) - song lyrics

You look pretty in your fancy dress
But I detect unhappiness
You never speak so I have to guess
You're not free

Yeah, well maybe when you're old enough
You'll realize that you're not so tough
And some days the seas get rough
And you'll see

You're too young to have it figured out
You think you know what you're talking about
You think it will all work itself out
But we'll see

When I was young, I thought I knew
You probably think you know, too
Do you? Well, do you?

I was naive just like you, I thought
I knew exactly what I wanted to do
Well, what you gonna do? What a fool

And how have you gotten by so far
Without having no visible scar
Knowing, knowing who you really are
That can't see
Wake up little Suzy, wake up Wake up little Suzy, wake up Wake up little Suzy, wake up Wake up little Suzy, wake up
What you gonna do? What you gonna do now?
What you gonna do? What you gonna do now?
What you gonna do? What you gonna do now?
What you gonna do? What you gonna do now?
What you gonna do now? Yeah

The only way you'll ever learn a thing
Is to admit that you know absolutely nothing
Oh, nothing

Think about this carefully
You might not get another chance to speak freely
Oh, freely, yeah

Maybe, when you're old enough
Maybe, when you're old enough
Maybe, when you're old enough
You're not free, yeah, you're not free

Higher than the mountains, taller than the trees Bigger than the moon above, deeper than the seas Oh, that's how I feel now my love is real Yeah, I'm old enough to love Stronger than the winds that blow, brighter than the sun Greater than the stars that glow, you're my only one Holding you, holding you close now at last I know Yes, I'm old enough to love Higher than the mountains, taller than the trees Bigger than the moon above, deeper than the seas Oh, that's how I feel now my love is real Yes, I'm old enough to love Old enough to love

I never thought you'd pick up the phone It's Friday night you should be at home at town Didn't think you'd be sitting at home all alone like me Nothing on TV, nothing to do Nothing to keep my mind off you and me And the way it was Are you thinking 'bout it now because I could be there in five One more one last time We don't have to be lonely tonight Need you, want you, I'm right here We don't have to be lonely tonight I know we shouldn't, but I don't care I don't wanna be right, I don't wanna be strong I just wanna hold you till the heart breaks stone When the sun comes up, we can both move on But we don't have to be lonely tonight That taste, that touch, the fire I miss Those kiss me eyes, your red wine lips, oh my I can use to be, baby I want you, and you want me We don't have to be lonely tonight Need you, want you, I'm right here We don't have to be lonely tonight I know we shouldn't, but I don't care I don't wanna be right, I don't wanna be strong I just wanna hold you till the heart breaks stone When the sun comes up, we can both move on But we don't have to be lonely tonight I can be there in five One more one last time We don't have to be lonely tonight Need you, want you, I'm right here We don't have to be lonely tonight I know we shouldn't, but I don't care I don't wanna be right, I don't wanna be strong I just wanna hold you till the heart breaks stone When the sun comes up, we can both move on But we don't have to be lonely tonight

There ain't no need to worry Oh, it ain't no use to cry 'Cause i'll be coming home soon To keep you satisfied And you know i get so lonely That i feel i can't go on But it feels so good inside baby Just to call you on the telephone And i said Ooh baby, i love you What more can i say? Ooh baby, i need you I miss you more everyday Everyday Woke up early this morning As the sun came shining down It found me wishing and hoping That you'd come back around You know that i need you So much more than the air i breathe, oh And i guess i'm just trying to tell you Woman what you mean to me And i said Ooh baby, i love you What more can i say? Ooh baby, i need you I miss you more everyday Everyday, oh I'm trying to tell you i love you Each and every way Trying to tell you I need your sweet loving So much more and more every day, ahh Yeah uhhhhh

Somewhere it went south tonight Desire turned to change The same road that led you here Is leading you astray You've fallen off the face of the world You can't explain When your friends feel more like echoes You don't hear back from again Deep in the distance, I know you'll hear this Where are you gonna go When your wildfire heart burns out And no one cares anymore? Another face in the cards We call this time Getting lost in the fold I'll tell you something The others won't It took a thousand nights To get to hold The heroes breathe like villains If you can get close enough You buy the suit they're wearing And you become the one you've judged But deep in the distance, I know you hear this Where are you gonna go When your wildfire heart burns out And no one cares anymore? Another face in the cards We call this time Getting lost in the fold I'll tell you something The others won't It took a thousand nights To get to hold You're born afraid Of the hell you raised Can't realize you were loved You can't hear those words deserved You can't hear the song unsung But deep in the distance, I hope you hear this Where are you gonna go When your wildfire heart burns out And no one cares anymore? Another face in the cards We call this time Getting lost in the fold I'll tell you something The others won't It took a thousand nights To get to hold To get to hold...

One day down and life to go Looks like you and me, we've lost all control Major Tom is moving on And the space left in between us Is the place where we belong And who would've thought that we would go Falling off the face of the world while it moves on? No one says 'you told me so' What if everything we live for comes down to skin and bone? What if it's good and lasting? Good and lasting What if it's good and lasting? Good and lasting What if fear is just a ghost? It's more scared of us than the closet we keep closed If every day could never end Do we live for happiness? Feel the one last kiss What if it's good and lasting? Good and lasting What if it's good and lasting? Good and lasting What if it's good and lasting? Good and lasting What if it's good and lasting? Good and lasting

Something's on my mind Telling me it's time To let go of holding on We tried everything For the life of me I can't just go along Is it any wonder why we're going under? We should've seen it coming our way It's like I finally woke up to nothing left to hold up Knowing it'd be harder to stay Makes it easy going Easy going Makes it easy going, ooh-ooh When you can't undo Things you can't get through I need a lucky thread No more days to waste So that we can say More livin', less regret Is it any wonder why we're going under? We should've seen it coming our way It's like I finally woke up to nothing left to hold up Knowing it'd be harder to stay Makes it easy going Easy going Makes it easy going, ooh-ooh Only so much you take, then you break And it's easy going When it isn't worth the fight, goodbye And it's easy going (easy going) Only so much you take, then you break And it's easy going (easy going, makes it easy going) When it isn't worth the fight, goodbye And it's easy going (makes it easy going, easy going) (Makes it easy going, oh)

If you call me I'll come running And you can call me anytime These sixteen strings we're strumming They will back up every line, every line, every line Yeah Get me back on my feet G-g-get me back on my feet, on my feet If you call me I'll come running And you can call me anytime And these sixteen strings we're strumming They will back up every line There's a motivation about you That moves me when we're apart It agitates my affections And it wants to break my heart Help me, stranger Help me get it off my mind Get me back on my feet Brother, can you spare the time? Help me, stranger Help me get it off my mind Get me back on my feet Brother, can you spare the time? It's not essential that I feel you But it's a sensitive device I'm reverential when I hear you I genuflect to your advice Well, I wish I had the words And I want those words to rhyme And I wish I had the nerve 'Cause I sure don't have the time Help me, stranger Help me get it off my mind Get me back on my feet Brother, can you spare the time? Help me, stranger Help me get it off my mind Get me back on my feet Brother, can you spare the time? (Yeah) Brother can you spare the time? (Baby can you spare the time?) Brother can you spare the time? Brother can you spare the time?

My baby's on the level I try to read her mind She's on the straight and narrow I'm guessing all the time But I can't see the road If I'm looking at the signs I'm carrying a load And stepping out of line My baby's on the level (my baby's on the level) I try to read her mind (I try to read her mind) She's on the straight and narrow (she's on the straight and narrow) I'm guessing all the time (and I'm guessing all the time) Oh, well, how can I see the road (how can I see the road) If I'm looking at the signs? (If I'm looking at the signs?) I'm carrying a load (I'm carrying a load) And stepping out of line...

Only child, only son Treated like a criminal ever since day one Only child, where do you go And are you coming back again cause no one wants to know Only child, one of these days Someone's gonna come around and try to make you change Only child, sensitive soul You see the beauty in everything without ever being told And I thought about leaving you once or twice Leaving it all behind and never think twice Somewhere far away on a beach sounds nice Nothing on my mind, nothing on my mind Only child, the prodigal son Has come back home again to get his laundry done I thought about leaving here once or twice Leaving it all behind and never think twice Somewhere far away on a beach sounds nice Nothing on my mind, nothing on my mind

I'm not sure if there's a point to this story But I'm going to tell it again So many other people try to tell the tale Not one of them knows the end It was a junk-house in South Carolina Held a boy the age of ten Along with his older brother Billy And their mother and her boyfriend Who was a triple loser with some blue tattoos That were given to him when he was young And a drunk temper that was easy to lose And thank God he didn't own a gun Well, Billy woke up in the back of his truck Took a minute to open his eyes He took a peep into the back of the house And found himself a big surprise He didn't see his brother, but there was his mother With her red-headed head in her hands While the boyfriend had his gloves wrapped around an old priest Trying to choke the man Billy looked up from the window to the truck Threw up, and had to struggle to stand He saw that rednecked bastard with a hammer Turn the priest into a shell of a man The priest was putting up the fight of his life But he was old and he was bound to lose The boyfriend hit as hard as he could And knocked the priest right down to his shoes Well, now Billy knew but never actually met The preacher lying there in the room He heard himself say, "That must be my daddy!" Then he knew what he was gonna do Billy got up enough courage to get up And grabbed the first blunt thing he could find It was a cold, glass bottle of milk That got delivered every morning at nine Billy broke in and saw the blood on the floor, and He turned around and put the lock on the door He looked dead into the boyfriend's eye His mother was a ghost, too upset to cry, then He took a step toward the man on the ground From his mouth trickled out a little audible sound He heard the boyfriend shout, "Get out!" And Billy said, "Not 'til I know what this is all about!" "Well, this preacher here was attacking your mama" But Billy knew just who was starting the drama So Billy took dead aim at his face And smashed the bottle on the man who left his dad in disgrace, and The white milk dripped down with the blood, and the Boyfriend fell down dead for good Right next to the preacher who was gasping for air And Billy shouted, "Daddy, why'd you have to come back here?" His mama reached behind the sugar and honey, and Pulled out an envelope filled with money "Your daddy gave us this," she collapsed in tears "He's been paying all the bills for years!" "Mama, let's put this body underneath the trees And put Daddy in the truck and head to Tennessee!" Just then, his little brother came in Holding the milkman's hat and a bottle of gin, singing La la la la, la la la la, yeah... La la la, la la la... La la la la, la la la la, yeah... La la la, la la la... La la la la, la la la la, yeah... La la la, la la la... La la la la, la la la la, yeah... La la la, la la la... Well now you heard another side to the story But you wanna know how it ends? If you must know the truth about the tale Go and ask the milkman

Down upon your hands and knees Underneath the poplar trees Digging through the sticks and stones Looking for store bought bones Waiting on the rising sun Clutching at your holstered gun Praying on a shooting star That I can be wherever you are ... Looking through a telescope Maybe there's a sign of hope Leaving everything behind Stirring a store bought mind Sitting at the edge of the seat Wishing you were here by me Sifting through the mud and the bricks Looking for a store bought fix ... You can't buy what you can't find What you can't buy, what you find What you can't buy, what you can You can't buy what you can't find, what you can You can't buy what you can't find, what you can Buy what you find, what you can't find, what you can You can't buy what you can't find, what you can You can't buy what you can't find, what you can

Your blue veins When I was surrounded by the world You were the only one who came And you were the only one astounded Which kept me grounded As the other girls thrashed my very name Then I looked over just in time To see her smiling back at me And saying everything's okay As long as you're inside my blue veins Your blue veins Yeah, and the feeling that you gave me No matter what I do or where I go It always will remain And those who would enslave me To get to me, must get past you and will have no luck 'Cause you'll protect me from all pain It's true, you know what The most beautiful Yeah, the most beautiful thing 'Cause anything else can't compare Must be the blood that's running through your blue veins Your blue veins Think it's gonna rain Your blue veins And I know you won't deceive me Like the rest, and there's nothing you need to explain You're always the first one to believe me When I say to you, "Girl, I think it's gonna rain" But I could be wrong Yeah, but all of these things All these things, they're all truly nice But it ain't nothing, that ain't nothing compared to the love That's running through your little blue veins Your blue veins
