Old Alabama (feat. Alabama) - song lyrics

She'd rather wear a pair of cut-off jeans
Than a fancy evenin' dress
And with her windows rolled down
And her hair blown all around
She's a hot southern mess

She'll take a beer over white wine
A campfire over candlelight
And when it comes to love
Oh, her idea of a romantic night

Is listenin' to old Alabama, drivin' through Tennessee
A little dixieland delight at the right time of the night
And she can't keep her hands off of me

And now we're rollin' down an old back road
I got the steering wheel in one hand
We'll find a hideaway where she and I can play
In mother nature's band

Now we're listenin' to old Alabama
Parked somewhere in Tennessee
A little dixieland delight and it feels so right
And it's love in the first degree

Forget about Sinatra or Coltrane
Or some ol' righteous brothers song
Even Barry White ain't gonna work tonight
If you really wanna turn her on
Play some back home, come on music
That comes from the heart
Play something with lots of feeling
'Cause that's where music has to start

Now we're listenin' to old Alabama
And we're drivin' through Tennessee
A little dixieland delight and it feels so right
And it's love in the first degree

Yeah, you know we're listenin' to old Alabama (old Alabama)
Drivin' through Tennessee (Tennessee)
A little why lady, why, at the right time of the night
Oh, and she can't keep her hands off of me, me, me

Oh, play me some old Alabama
Oh, play me some old Alabama
Won't you play me some old Alabama?
Oh, play
Yee-haw

So the one you loved just left you for another
And you're down
Or you lost your job and you need a drink
You look around and start to think
That no one understands what you been through

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross The emblem of suffering and shame; And I love that old cross where the dearest and best For a world of lost sinners was slain So I'll cherish the old rugged cross Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross And exchange it some day for a crown O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world Has a wondrous attraction for me; For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above To bear it to dark Calvary So I'll cherish the old rugged cross Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross And exchange it some day for a crown In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine A wondrous beauty I see For 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died To pardon and sanctify me So I'll cherish the old rugged cross Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross And exchange it some day for a crown To the old rugged cross I will ever be true; Its shame and reproach gladly bear; Then He'll call me some day to my home far away Where His glory forever I'll share So I'll cherish the old rugged cross Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross And exchange it some day for a crown

Drinkin' was forbidden in my Christian country home I learned to play the flattop on them good ol' Gospel songs And I heard about the barrooms just across the Georgia line Where a boy could make a livin' playin' guitar late at night Had to learn about the ladies, too young to understand Why the young girls fall in love with the boys in the band When the boys turn to music, the girls just turn away To some other guitar picker in some other late night place Yeah, I held on to my music, I let the ladies walk away Took my songs and dreams to Nashville then I moved on to L.A. Up to New York City, all across the U.S.A I've lost so much of me but there's enough of me to say That my home's in Alabama No matter where I lay my head My home's in Alabama Southern born and Southern bred What keeps me goin' I don't really know Can't be the money, Lord knows I'm always broke Could it be the satisfaction of bein' understood When the people really love you and let you know when it's good Oh I'll speak my Southern English as natural as I please I'm in the heart of Dixie, Dixie's in the heart of me And someday when I make it, when love finds a way Somewhere high on Lookout Mountain I'll just smile with pride and say That my home's in Alabama No matter where I lay my head My home's in Alabama Southern born and southern bred Southern born and southern bred Southern born and southern bred And my home's in Alabama No matter where I lay my head My home's in Alabama Southern born and southern bred Southern born and southern bred Southern born and southern bred

Oh, Alabama, the devil fools with the best laid plan Swing low, Alabama You got the spare change, you got to feel strange And now the moment is all that it meant Alabama, you got the weight on your shoulders That's breaking your back Your Cadillac has got a wheel in the ditch And a wheel on the track Oh Alabama, banjos playing through the broken glass Windows down in Alabama See the old folks tied in white ropes, hear the banjo Don't it take you down home? Alabama, you got the weight on your shoulders That's breaking your back Your Cadillac has got a wheel in the ditch And a wheel on the track Oh Alabama, can I see you and shake your hand? Make friends down in Alabama I'm from a new land, I come to you and See all this ruin, what are you doing? Alabama You got the rest of the union To help you along What's going wrong?

On my fifth birthday I got so upset About the brand new bike that I didn't get I'd prayed my heart out and it didn't seem fair. I told my grandpa, "I guess God doesn't care" And he just smiled and said, "My child," "Make no mistake Every prayer you pray gets answered Even though Sometimes, the answer is no." Five years later, out behind the shed With a stolen pack of grandpa's cigarettes I struck a match, and held that first one to my lips And prayed to God, "Please let me get away with this." And through the smoky air I saw grandpa standing there. Make no mistake Every prayer you pray gets answered Even though Sometimes, the answer is no When I think of all the answers in my life, I would have to say There's no doubt it was always for the best when I didn't get my way. Grandpa got older, like grandpas do His health was failing and I guess I knew It'd be best if he was called on home But selfishly I prayed that God would keep him hanging on And when he passed away, in my mind I heard him say. Make no mistake Every prayer you pray gets answered Even though Sometimes, the answer is no. Sometimes the answer Is no.

When I'm sitting in traffic some afternoon Or bored to death in some waiting room Well I'm gonna close my eyes and picture you Today You keep brushing that hair back outta your eyes And it just keeps falling and so do I Well I'm feeling like the luckiest man alive Today I don't know about tomorrow But right now the whole world feels right And the memory of a day like today Can get you through the rest of your life Well I know it won't always be like this Life can change as quick as a kiss It's not over yet and I already miss Today And as the seasons change and time goes by When your hair is grey and so is mine Know for sure that you're gonna be just as beautiful As you are to me today. Bring on tomorrow, I've got today Bring on tomorrow, I've got today Bring on tomorrow, right now the whole world is right Bring on tomorrow Because the memory of a day like today Can get you through the rest of your life
