Firewood - song lyrics

The pines down there are getting lonely I think they need a friend
If you bring the company, then I'll find the land
Maybe I'm too dumb to know how growing up goes
But what's good about your youthful eyes, is we'll never grow old

And by the way

I just want a home
But I've never seen somebody build one all on their own
And I
I know love gets cold
Not ours but if it should
I already set out the firewood

Do you ever just sit and wonder what our lives could be like
Dancing with the lightning bugs that replace the porch light
Just know my mama's gonna live, at least somewhat near
But I promise you we're far enough where nobody will find us here

Just so you know

I just want a home
But I've never seen somebody build one all on their own
And I
I know love gets cold
Not ours but if it should
I already set out the firewood

If only I could make the drive all those hours away
Where the honeysuckles' sweetness don't compare to what you'll say
When I show up after all the times I've left you all alone
And you'll know longer worry about
What's gonna warm your home

I want a home
But I've never seen somebody build one all on their own
And I
I know love gets cold
Not ours but if it should
I already set out the firewood

No longer burdened by youth Not burning and open and raw like a wound And shopping is much easier now I can be quiet and private and protected In a compartment tucked away real tight I'll ride my bike 'til the sun goes down Singing songs of no reason while no one's around And when it gets dark I will continue to stay out With my gray hairs all on the ground With something new to romanticize They'll all leave without you They Always will We can hold hands if we promise to go to the same place At the same exact time I will keep my grasp tight Until we part Ways then we can both disappear If I avoid you then you can't abandon me I can focus on my tasks so fervently Everything is much easier now My beliefs unchallenged thus calcified In a compartment tucked away real tight

The piano is not firewood yet They try to remember but still they forget That the heart beats in threes Just like a waltz And nothing can stop you from dancing Rise from your cold hospital bed You're not dying Everyone knows you're going to live So you might as well start trying The piano is not firewood yet But the cold does get cold So it soon might be that I'll take it apart, call up my friends And we'll warm up our hands by the fire Don't look so shocked Don't judge so harsh You don't know You are only spying Everyone knows it's going to hurt But at least we'll get hurt trying The piano is not firewood yet But a heart can't be helped And it gathers regret Someday you'll wake up and feel a great pain And you'll miss every toy you ever owned You'll want to go back You'll wish you were small Nothing can slow the crying You'll take the clock off of your wall And you'll wish it was lying Love what you have and you'll have more love You're not dying Everyone knows you're going to love Though there's still no cure for crying

Light a match and throw it at the fuse Run away and hope I can get a view I remember how beautiful it was Blindfold on I can drive to her old house Go from there to all three surrounding towns I remember every rock and every turn I can't remember the last time that my prayers weren't broken I send 'em up, they come back down as a blessing I'm ignoring The crowded road praises me cuz I'm starting to lose The part of me that never praised My broken hallelujahs John pointed at the ripples in the glass Notice how stillness never lasts The calmest of my life was at that pond So lay me down by the Zebco on the ground To me, cicadas are heaven's sound I recall being healed by that song Now I don't know the last time that my prayers weren't broken I send 'em up, they come back down as a blessing I'm ignoring The crowded road praises me cuz I'm starting to lose The part of me that never praised My broken hallelujahs I remember the last time I found myself broken All I've known for way too long is struggling to sew it Every sunrise is one more day I'm fighting not to lose Cuz now they all love a man Who broke his Hallelujahs Broken Hallelujahs

She said I'm used to seeing mountains And a skyline with lots of lights Well honey the best I can do Is a pretty little hill with stars at night Did you know what I call home Is a smile and white flower in your hair But what I think you need to know I don't think you could move me there She said I think you kinda talk funny My daddy don't say it that strong Back at home the radio Plays a much different kind of song Here blue eyes cry when it rains If it ever even rains at all And I know she'll never admit it but I think she likes the way I talk She asked why everything feels so sweet Like I poured a little sugar on my lips before I told her that my mama said When it comes to showing love there's always room for more And she's been praying for the longest time For something to make her feel some pride And I've never been to Colorado But I know they don't have an Alamo She said I think you kinda talk funny My daddy don't say it that strong Back at home the radio Plays a much different kind of song Here blue eyes cry when it rains If it ever even rains at all And I know she'll never admit it but I think she likes the way I talk She said I'm used to seeing mountains with city lights all in the view The only mountains I have here are only good when they turn blue She said I think you kinda talk funny But I think I'm coming along I'm pretty sure I saw her blushing when I was singing along to country song But here blue eyes cry when it rains If it ever even rains at all And I know she'll never admit it but I think she likes the way I talk

I Hit the brakes at a stoplight on one eighty-three First time I ever drove was in his old red Chevy He said let's get your grandma, she'll want to see this too And if you get into school, I'll give this truck to you Did you know you're the best I ever saw? I think this year you're gonna win it all Your daddy's got a real good team But you're the only one that matters to me Oh but maybe if I close my eyes Say a prayer then it'll be alright Wake up to a smiling sun But the songbirds remember what they saw last night He wiped a tear from his eye As I drove ol red, and left Lampasas behind I know it was late but did ya see the game last night? Tied at 34 into overtime. Man we were so tough, you should've seen us fight We brought it to 'em like you taught me my whole life Oh but maybe if I close my eyes Say a prayer then it'll be alright Wake up to a smiling sun But the songbirds remember what they saw last night I wiped a tear from my eye As I drove ol red, and left Lampasas behind I sang his favorite song for everyone he loved Made it through one verse of Brooks and Dunn Then my tough ran out Like it always does So I sat there crying while I barely strummed Oh but maybe if I close my eyes Say a prayer then it'll be alright Wake up to a smiling sun But the songbirds remember what they saw last night Well maybe if I close my eyes A prayer will make it feel alright Wake up to a shining sun But songbirds remember what they saw last night I wipe a tear from my eye As I drove ol red, and left Lampasas behind

Well it's getting late, it's getting dark And there's light showing up from a million stars The clouds are heavy I think the light Is coming from you It's been raining for a month it seems But in here it's warm as kerosene Cuz all the tears are from the sky this time and not your eyes But as time starts going by And my adrenaline fades, I'll still chase that life When a guy like me begs for An Angel like you Beat up, broken down, down, down is gonna have to do Don't mind me I'm just tryna cross your view I just want to be something to an Angel like you It's so innocent, a washed kind of red Like a light love song that won't leave your head Did I ever tell you darling that's my favorite kind? I feel like I know a lot about you Like where your mama's from, your favorite things to do But let me tell you a little bit about myself I won't ever quit Running your way like I've been heaven sent When a guy like me begs for An Angel like you Beat up, broken down, down, down is gonna have to do Don't mind me I'm just tryna cross your view I just want to be something to an Angel like you And I see you try so hard To be too good for a less-than-average heart When a guy like me begs for An Angel like you Beat up, broken down, down, down is gonna have to do Don't mind me I'm just tryna cross your view I just want to be something to an Angel like you An Angel like you
