Facing Time - song lyrics

Last time I had a schedule
It said Maths and Geography
Last time I felt embarrassed
I was stood in the dock and my mum couldn't look at me
Last time I seen my dad
He was asking me if I'm gonna do this properly
Now they call me an MC
Master of ceremonies
But time is the master
Because time will turn all this to a memory
And I don't think I'm built for the industry
All the fake smiles and laughter
Make me want to turn into a mystery
Cause I know what people are after
Critics and journalists trying to get to me
I preferred being a grafter
You know, living under the radar
With nothing but drugs and money to look after
But now I've gotta see television as a factor
I've got responsibilities
Everybody wants something
But they come wearing a mask
Cause they're never gonna ask ya
Even a friend can turn to an actor
They act like they're happy you made it
But feel like they deserve your wages
And at that point it's the end of the chapter
I'm losing friends and gaining enemies
In fact more to the point
I'm losing patience with negative energies
I had to change my number

Because conversations were lacking in relevance
I wanna be tough for the future and this year

I don't want a war with the elephants
I don't wanna go back to claiming benefits

I used to love money, but I don't no more

I got money that I don't count no more
I'll listen out for the trial no more

We don't have to be down no more
But I'm facing time
I'm famous now
So I'm facing time

They wanna know what I mean by facing time
If I could turn back the hands of time
I'd go back to when I had freedom
But now I'm facing time

First time I've felt secure in all twenty five years
First time I've felt like I don't need people to deal with fears
First time I told my dad I loved him
I was being sincere
But family's a word
And words just don't mean nothing out here
I brought exposure to my city
And I don't care
By those who feel like it should be them
And it's not fair
Bring me one other person that could've climbed these stairs
I know they don't want me to succeed
But I've been saying my prayers
They wanna know what I mean by facing time
They wanna know runs through the mind of a famous guy
They think fame means plenty of money
And a glamorous life
But fame is a jail
And not everyone here will survive
I'm new to the wing
New to the guards
New to the vibe
For the things I've done
I'm facing life
Where else could I go?
I don't blend outside
Looks like I'll just have to do my time

We'll be facing the sun Waiting for these things to come We're smiling high Watching the good things passing by Pretend to feeling fine But inside we're crying sometimes It ain't what it seems Nothing but a dream And the faces get void And the lines get to thin And the roads become uneven So we don't know where we been And those who doubt us Will soon believe We are never supposed to win Or even to achieve We'll be facing the sun Waiting for these things to come We're smiling high Watching the good things passing by Pretend to feeling fine But inside we're crying sometimes It ain't what it seems Nothing but a dream And the faces get void And the lines get to thin And the roads become uneven So we don't know where we been And those who doubt us Will soon believe We are never supposed to win Or even to achieve

You made a promise of protection To a future after life To the final resurrection Unto eternal paradise But then I'm blinded with temptation Into every mortal sin Is it God that sits there waiting Or will the darkness suck me in? Let's wake up the dead (Oh yeah) It's better than never, you know More tears are shed (Oh yeah) I'm praying that you'll never know That I'm facing hell Oh the children sit and listen, the belief was in their eyes In a land with no tomorrows, through the night you hear their cries But then your eyes just skip the pages of a book that never ends Is it God that sits there waiting Do you hear the call again? Let's wake up the dead (Oh yeah) It's better than never, you know More tears are shed (Oh yeah) I'm praying that you'll never know That I'm facing hell It's just a crazy world we live in and I'm out of my mind You'll pray tomorrow but you're leaving today Evil one is coming and he's knocking your door 'Cause today's the day you pay Let's wake up the dead (Oh yeah) It's better than never, you know More tears are shed (Oh yeah) I'm praying that you'll never know That I'm facing hell

24 hours in the same place Told 'em I need me a vaca' I never get 'round to the vaca' Bank statements making me lazy Every day payday I stopped eating meat in '18 still I got a full plate Ya never know when a beef can go off I didn't wanna show off but when you're the first in I need their hearts to beat when they see me in person How is it a fifty-fifty if I need reimbursing? They can't drink from my table if they're not putting the work in She was at home in bed, I'm busy flirting Weekends, I've got the weekdays merging, I swear I'm just tryna keep waves in my hair, I Wanna make 'em record or hold their torch in the air, why? 'Cause I feel alive when it all lights up Let my enemies know that I don't give a fuck When I swore to myself that I'd never look down when I first climbed I've done well for an ex gang member And I've done bits and bobs Just like what Montana done to Rebenga I'm one of the last ones standing Everyone's dead or in jail now And I've got trauma that creeps up on me That I try not to remember I was born in December, five days before Christmas day Haunted by the ghost of the Christmas past Didn't wanna blind him, so I kept my wrist tilted this way I'm not afraid to drop to my knees and pray 'Cause I never thought that I'd overcome this pain I was born in December, five days before Christmas day Haunted by the ghost of the Christmas past Didn't wanna blind him, so I kept my wrist tilted this way I'm not afraid to drop to my knees and pray 'Cause I never thought that I'd overcome this pain Yo, I've been studying psychology 'Cause I didn't wanna go and see a psychiatrist Thank God she accepted my apology 'Cause I don't even think I could do none of this From day one, she proven herself Back when I couldn't get shoes off the shelf Back when I couldn't even get into the club Didn't pop bottles, never have Louis on my belt I'm ready to make a commitment I've got trainers coming on a shipment I've got an M in one account and an M that I put into the crib, are you listening? Me and these rappers are different 'cause most of these rappers chat fiction Me, I'm just telling a story, the type that will go down in history This is December I told 'em I needed a choir Plus I'm thinking out loud, so I'm gonna need quiet I hope that I made 'em proud, but I bet they deny it I been practicing patience, let me apply it I haven't been posting, I've not been replying There's a lot of moving parts, so I needed some time I already believe, I don't need a sign I already know the reason I shine Was looking for symptoms online Emotional instability, impulsive behaviour Rage, sorrow, borderline personality It's a disorder but it's important 'Cause without that I just blend in I'm just brave enough to say it out loud, I'm not unpretending When I was on road, they say I was mad And that was cuckoo, he had to be bad Now that I'm famous, I've had to change the way that I think And the way that I act Emotionally switched off, I'm only just fixing it now I've gotta thank my girl for sticking around and holding me up 'Cause I coulda drowned and never again will I let her down Responsibility comes with a crown and that's why I always frown It was my job to build a bridge all the way from the North over to the South And when they take shots I watch it bounce off my body armour I'm Marcus Aurelius, Julius Caesar, used to suffer with seizures I guess everyone's vulnerable, it's what you do with the struggle though Can't believe I've got trainers in JD, but I used to be criminal 29 years in December but this one is a miracle I've done well for an ex gang member And I've done bits and bobs Just like what Montana done to Rebenga I'm one of the last ones standing Everyone's dead or in jail now And I've got trauma that creeps up on me That I try not to remember I was born in December, five days before Christmas day Haunted by the ghost of the Christmas past Didn't wanna blind him, so I kept my wrist tilted this way I'm not afraid to drop to my knees and pray 'Cause I never thought that I'd overcome this pain I was born in December, five days before Christmas day Haunted by the ghost of the Christmas past Didn't wanna blind him, so I kept my wrist tilted this way I'm not afraid to drop to my knees and pray 'Cause I never thought that I'd overcome this pain

Thomas Mellor Ah, they say life's not about waiting for the storm to pass It's about learning to dance in the rain Bugzy Malone You know? Watch this It's not physical pain, it's psychological pain Emotionally scarred so bad I was wearing a mask-like Bane Not an actual mask, a psychological mask What do you find that mad? What about a kid that had to find his dad Only to find that he didn't like him back Not physical pain, psychological pain I seen it from the beginning, I was there on the wedding day The happiest kid in the world when I'd seen the smile on my mum's face I thought it was real I heard the vows, I threw the confetti Little did I know it was fake Not physical pain, it's psychological pain Everything I loved in life just went up in flames I went from cold to freezing I watched the family break into pieces I thought that adults could iron out creases I thought family was cousins and nephews and nieces, not arguments and police Not physical pain, it's psychological pain And if you look closely enough you can see the pain in my face All the confusion, too many lies It's all an illusion, nobody tries to understand You get kicked to the curb and nobody says one word I'm a bad boy and I know why I get mad 'cause I said I won't cry And the pain runs deeper than the blue sea, but the tears they will never run dry You're looking at a bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy I'm a bad boy and I know why I get mad 'cause I said I won't cry And the pain runs deeper than the blue sea, but the tears they will never run dry You're looking at a bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Ya, it's not physical pain, it's psychological pain And I'd be lying to myself if I said I didn't miss Dane I watched him come from Jamaica Sat with him playing on Sega Sat thinking about paper Me and him were the same age, and it just meant that we were rebellious by nature Physical pain, psychological pain They sent him back, while I was sat locked up in a cage I hit the roadside pissed, told him over the phone, "Wait there I'll bring him home" Tried to make money in time, but it was too late It's not physical pain, it's psychological pain They told me he fell from a bus and got bleeding on the brain I prayed to the Lord, bring him back if he could live normal He was in a coma, no-one's immortal Turns out his condition was awful, it must have been fate It's not physical pain, it's psychological pain And if the storm don't pass then I'm going to dance in the rain 'Cause no matter what I'm a soldier, the world gets colder and colder Every day that I get older I realize that life's way to short to play games I'm a bad boy and I know why I get mad 'cause I said I won't cry And the pain runs deeper than the blue sea, but the tears they will never run dry You're looking at a bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy I'm a bad boy and I know why I get mad 'cause I said I won't cry And the pain runs deeper than the blue sea, but the tears they will never run dry You're looking at a bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy Bad boy, bad bad boy
